Alabama Water Operator Continuing Education

AL Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E: 2024)
Water operators can take this course for a thorough look at the rules and requirements found in the 2024 NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace publication. Lesson material includes a review of PPE, GFCI protection, controller equipment maintenance, the electrical safety program, lockout/tagout protocols, and more.

AL Pumps: Part 2
This course continues looking at additional pump types, including reciprocating pumps, metering pumps, and special purpose pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation. We also discuss sealing devices, including packing and mechanical seals, bearings, lubrication, and installation.

AL Wastewater Treatment Processes
This course provides an overview of wastewater treatment, including the physical separation of solids, chemical treatment processes, biological processes, and solids treatment and disposal.

AL Maintaining Wastewater Equipment
This course provides details on a variety of wastewater equipment, including pumping stations, screening equipment, grinding equipment, grit removal systems, sludge and scum collection apparatus, and flow measurement devices. For each piece of equipment, we will cover major parts, start-up, operation, shutdown, maintenance, and safety.

AL Pumps: Part 1
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation.

AL Introduction to Water Technology
This course introduces operators to the hydrologic cycle and its effects on the structure and functions of water and wastewater systems. From there, we discuss water collection, treatment, and distribution, as well as the physical, chemical, and biological properties of water.

AL Piping Systems: Part 2
This course dives further into piping systems by discussing the smaller components that make piping systems function, including fittings, common and special valves, strainers, filters, traps, and accessories. Preventative and repair maintenance for these components are also discussed.

AL Piping Systems: Part 1
This course introduces operators to piping systems and familiarizes them with the larger components that make piping systems function, including metallic and nonmetallic piping, tubing, and hoses.

Alabama Membrane Processes - 2 CEH
This course will fulfill 2 of your required hours for Alabama water operators.
A membrane is a sheet of natural or synthetic material that is partially permeable to substances in solution. Membranes are used in various methods of water treatment. Students who take our Membrane Processes course will learn the uses and types of membrane processes including reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and electrodialysis reversal.

Alabama Basic Electrical Concepts for Water Operators - 2 CEH
This course will fulfill 2 of your required hours for Alabama water operators.
This course is intended to provide water operators with information on basic electrical concepts they will need in their career.

AL Water Distribution Systems
This two-hour course provides water treatment and distribution operators in Alabama with an overview of important components, concepts and concerns common to water distribution systems (WDS) in the United States. It also touches upon the relationship between WDS organization and community needs and the implementation of environmental protocols to ensure water quality.

AL Fluid Mechanics
This course explains how fluids behave, especially under pressure and in motion. This lesson is divided into two major parts. The first concerns fluids at rest and describes the properties fluids have when they are standing still. The second half treats the subject of fluids in motion.

What are the CE requirements for renewing an Alabama water operator certificate?
WATER
To renew your Alabama water operator certification(s) you must:
- Attain the required number of Continuing Education Hours (CEH) described in ADEM's Division 10 regulation:
- Operators with one water certificate must demonstrate 24 continuing education hours (CEH) of actual training in the water field.
- Operators with more than one certificate must obtain 15 continuing education hours (CEH) of training in the proper field for each certificate for the renewal period.
- Complete & send a renewal application and nonrefundable fee for certification renewal to ADEM at least thirty days prior to the expiration date of the certificate to be renewed.
- Once your application and renewal fee are received, your application will be processed, and if approved a renewal certificate will be issued to you.

State Of Alabama Water Operator License Renewal Deadlines
- The license renewal deadline is based on the license issue date, every three years.
